Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are normally for patients with long-term conditions who receive regular treatment. Your doctor will decide who can have a repeat prescription. Your doctor will review all repeat prescriptions regularly, we do this to keep a check on your illness. Patients with some chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and asthma will be seen regularly for monitoring of their condition.

Prescription Charges and Exemptions

Ordering Prescriptions

  • Repeat prescriptions take 48 hours (working days) to process, for example; requests put in on a Friday will be ready on Tuesday. This excludes bank holidays - see our website during this time for more information.

  • Acute medication requests can take up to 5 working days to process.

  • Queries will be put in for the GP to review.


Please allow enough time when ordering medication. You can submit requests up to 5 days before you are due to run out, if you require your prescription before then please state the reason why in your request. We cannot take telephone requests for repeat prescriptions because of the possibility of error. If you are housebound or disabled please speak to the receptionists.

Please order your repeat prescription from the same surgery each time and try to use the same Pharmacy for dispensing.If you think you may need a new prescription for medicine please make an appointment with the doctor. Tell us of any changes to your repeat prescription list made at the hospital or if you stop any medication by yourself.

Do not stockpile unwanted drugs at home - return them to your chemist 


How To Order Your Repeat Prescriptions


  • MON – WED:            9.30AM – 2.30PM
  • THURS – FRI:           9.30AM – 1.30PM

If you order your medication at Nightingale you will need to pick up your prescription from Nightingale. If it is inconvenient for you to order or collect your prescription(s) out of these hours, you have the following options:


  • Mon:                  8.00am – 8.30pm
  • Tues – Fri:         8.00am – 6.30pm
  1. ON-LINE:  sign up to the patient on-line service – all prescriptions ordered on-line will need to be collected at St Mark’s Medical Centre or sent to your nominated pharmacy via collection or EPS.
  2. EMAIL: 
  3. IN WRITING: Calling into the surgery and posting your written request in the surgery posting box or sending the request by post with a stamped addressed envelope and we will post the prescription to you.
  4. PHARMACY:  order and collect your prescriptions at your nominated pharmacy.

  4. EPS

EPS (Electronic Prescription Service) 

Prescriptions can now be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy as an alternative to the traditional paper prescription. This decreases the collection time of your prescription from the surgery because when the prescription is electronically signed by the doctor it is sent straight to the pharmacy. Please speak to your nominated pharmacy about having your prescription sent EPS.

Third Party Collection

If your prescription is to be collected by someone other than yourself e.g. a family member or friend. If this person is not known to the staff at the surgery please contact the surgery to give us the name of the person collecting your prescription. They must bring proof of ID to show who they are before the prescription can be given. 


Online Prescriptions

We have a computerised repeat prescription service.

To use Patient Services you will need a Practice ID number and Access ID number which is obtained from the practice, and, in conjunction with a password, will be unique to you.
